Description

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program is to train Lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water. The course combines eLearning, on-site skills sessions, final in-water assessments and a final written exam. Topics include water rescue skills, surveillence and recognition, first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies, CPR, AED, and more. Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in Lifeguarding (Deep Water), CPR/AED and First Aid. Pre-requisites to qualify for the course: minimum 15 years old by the course conclusion; present photo ID/proof of age; complete assigned eLearning program by start of first in-person class session; successfully complete the following skills during a scheduled in-person, pre-course session (times to be provided after registration): 1. Swim a total of 200 yards using front crawl and/or breaststroke demonstrating breath control; maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs. 2. Complete a timed event within 1min 40 sec: 20yd swim, submerge to a depth of 9' to retrieve a 10lb object, return swim on back while holding the object with 2 hands, exit the water without using a ladder or steps. Most weekend courses are scheduled Friday, 4-9pm/Saturday and Sunday 8a-6:30p. Most vacation week, holiday weekend and summer courses are scheduled 8a-5p daily, with some exceptions.
