The primary purpose of the Lifeguarding Recertification course is to give participants who are currently certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding the opportunity to review the course knowledge and skills within a formal course setting to maintain their American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Successful completion results in a renewable Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid certification, valid for 2 years. Note that this course is specifically designed for individuals who participate in regular Lifeguard trainings that reinforce skills and knowledge; others should attend a full Lifeguard course. The Lifeguarding Recertification Course combines independent eLearning with an on-site skills session. Participants must be registered with a personal email and phone number to receive course information and instructions to access the pre-course eLearning program. A pre-requisite water skills evaluation is required to qualify for the course ((150-yard swim followed by 2 minutes of hands-free treading water and an additional 50-yard swim; deep-water surface dive to retrieve and swim with a weighted object). It is strongly recommended that participants complete the skills evaluation in advance of the course. Participants are required to present a photo ID and a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, and bring a pocket mask to class. Additional information will be sent upon registration.
