Description

In this class, swimmers will continue to refine their swimming skills while building endurance and confidence in the water. Instruction focuses on introducing front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl, and elementary backstroke, with attention to proper body position, breathing, and coordinated arm and leg movements. Swimmers will also strengthen their self-rescue skills and swimming independence, preparing them for advancement into youth swimming levels. 

Required before entering this stage 
To ensure safety and proper placement, participants should be able to demonstrate the following skills: 

  • Submerge and look at an object at the bottom of the pool while blowing bubbles (without holding their nose) 

  • Swim on front 10 yards independently  

  • Independently exit the water 

  • Swim on back 10 yards independently 

  • Roll from front to back and back to front independently 

  • Tread water for 30 seconds  

  • Perform swim, float, swim for 15 yards  

Swimmers may advance to this level by successfully completing Preschool Stage 3 or by passing a swim evaluation. For safety reasons, if a swimmer does not meet the skill requirements for this class, instructors reserve the right to place them in the appropriate level to best support their learning and confidence in the water.
