The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program is to train lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water. The course combines eLearning with on-site skills sessions. Topics include water rescue skills, surveillance, and recognition, first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies, CPR, AED and more. Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in Lifeguarding (Deep Water)/CPR/AED/First Aid. Pre-requisites to qualify for the course: minimum 15 years old by the course conclusion; present photo ID/proof of age; complete assigned eLearning program by first class; successfully complete the following skills during a scheduled pre-course session (times to be provided after registration): 1. Swim a total of 200 yards using front crawl and/or breaststroke demonstrating breath control; maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs; complete a timed event within 1m 40sec: 20yard swim, submerge to a depth of 9’ to retrieve a 10lb object, return swim on back while holding the object with 2 hands, exit the water without using a ladder or steps. Most weekend courses are scheduled Friday 4-10p/Saturday and Sunday 8a-6p. Most vacation week and holiday weekend courses are scheduled 8a-5p. Additional information will be sent upon registration.
